Wellness Coaching is the application of the principals and processes of professional life coaching to the goals of lifestyle improvement for higher levels of wellness. It is an alliance between a professional coach and a person who, through the benefit of that relationship, seeks lasting lifestyle behavioral change.
Clients hire coaches because they want to achieve something. They have a goal in mind and they believe it would be more reliably realized with the help of a coach. As discussed when we outlined the flow model of coaching, it often takes investigation to get to the real topic that the client wants to address. Initial formulations of the goal may be expressed concretely as an objective of losing a certain amount of weight, running a marathon, or sleeping peacefully through the night. As topics are explored, something else may emerge as the overarching purpose that clients want to realize. It may not be weight loss as much as it is feeling good about one’s body. Perhaps an initial goal of running a marathon evolves into an objective of sustaining a high level of wellness over time. Likewise, sleeping peacefully through the night may translate into simplifying life so that anxiety and stress are not one’s daily diet.
In other words, Wellness Coaching is a regular conversation between a coach and client that facilitates discovery, movement, change and growth. The process will assist you in discovering your passions, strengths, dreams, desires and values with the intention of designing a vision of your best self. The outcome will be a partnered journey down a path of achievements that are aligned with that vision.....a path to a happier, healthier lifestyle.

What to Expect
As a first step, you’ll complete a wellness assessment, allowing me, your wellness coach, to get to know you even before we meet. Having an understanding of your strengths, your preferences and your unique challenges allows me to better guide your future health goals. Together we will work to design an individualized wellness plan and I will help you incorporate the knowledge you gain during your on-site experience, ensuring that you return home with a wellness plan that meets your needs and helps you achieve your goals.

When they elect to work with lifestyle wellness coaches, professional considerations and ethical codes define the range of goals, the types of processes, and the nature of the relationship. For some people, goal statements resemble ungrounded fantasies. In working with coaches, amorphous intentions are shaped into specific objectives and ultimately described in contractual ways.
